Our free tip today comes from in-form Tipster, Hanbury Racing Tips, who is now sporting an ROI of 41% and 670 points profit since June 2020. If you had backed all his horses at £25/unit stakes you would be showing a profit of £17136.00!!
During the course of a jumps season there are plenty of really old horses that pop up and win well into their veteran years, indeed the record is 18 years old (by Megalala) and today I think there will be another old boy that takes the honours at the Perth racing festival.
Purcell Bridge is now 14 years young and there are good reasons to think he can win today. He is a winner of 5 of his 46 races and has placed a further 12 times. That means he has placed in a healthy 36% of his runs.
His best trip by far is today’s 3 miles and luckily, he is not inconvenienced by ground conditions (winning on good or soft ground). It’s currently good at Perth, but light rain is due on and off all day, so it’s tricky to know exactly how it will be riding by 6.40.
With these old horses the connections usually have a main target, maybe a race it had previously won, or a particular racing festival. Well I think connections have targeted the Perth racing festival as Purcell Bridge has run well here on 3 occasions finishing 2nd, 3rd & 5th.
He was last here two years ago (no Perth festival last year due to lockdown) where he ran in a good 3 mile hunter chase off level weights and finished a very creditable 3rd at 40/1 postmarking 114. That day his official mark was 106, but he was wildly disadvantaged at the weights with the rest of the field (winner rated 127), so that was an excellent run under the circumstances.
Purcell Bridge has only run 6 times since over two seasons, 4 last season and only two this year. Well I’m certain connections have used these two runs this season, in March and April, to bring Purcell Bridges fitness and wellbeing along so he peaks for today. This is borne out by his latest run being over 2m 5F, which is far too shorter trip for him nowadays, but it served a purpose.
So I particularly like Purcell’s chances today because when I take his postmark of 114 two years ago (as a fit/in form run) and factor in some deterioration for age, I would assess this at between 14lb to 20lb. So I feel he can run to somewhere around the 94 to 100 mark. Well today he gets in here off a mark of just 80 and that gives him a massive chance as he’d probably only have to run around 88-92 to win this and only 80-85 to place.
Purcell Bridge is a whooping 40/1 and looks huge value with Boylesports and I recommend 1 point each way.
Just imagine his owners, they would be absolutely elated if he wins, and so let’s cheer home the old boy and join in the celebrations if he wins!!
