The Grand National – 5.15 Aintree – 4 miles 2F
Hogan’s Height – 100/1 Bet365 – 1 point each way – 5 places guaranteed.
The 10 year old Hogan’s Height is a very interesting contender in this year’s National. He has the all-important winning form round the Grand National fences, when back in 2019 he won impressively by 16 lengths over the 2m 5F trip.
He really showed improved form when tackling the fences and because this track is such a unique test you must take note when a horse loves it.
The one big issue is the step up from 2m 5F to 4m 2F. This will have put off many from backing him, but I’m prepared to take the chance that he will stay. The ground is riding good to soft and will have enough juice in it to make suitable for Hogan’s Height, but it would be fast enough to make the 4m 2F less of a stamina sapping trip.
Don’t worry about his two runs this season, one was over hurdles, the other in the Cross Country where he has no experience of the fences. These two races have purely served a purpose to get him in A1 condition for today and there have been plenty of horses that have taken similar hurdle/cross country routes to victory.
At 100/1 he is hugely overpriced and I’m recommending 1 point each way with Bet365 – 5 places guaranteed.
