Mr McGuiness – 5.03 Warwick – 2m 5F Handicap Hurdle – 100/1 Skybet 4 places – 1 point each way.
The 11 year old Mr McGuiness is a winner of three hurdle races, all over 2m 4F and on good ground, winning off marks up to 118 and postmarking a career high of 128. He has tried chasing, but that’s just not his game.
He was very lightly raced in the 2019/20 season which also included a wind operation.
Mr McGuiness came back this season and not surprisingly he has needed some runs to get fit. He had one run before Christmas and then another in February, with his latest in March. He ran well down the field each time, but his base fitness will have improved which is very consistent with the way his Trainer Rosemary Gasson brings her horses on.
What interests me are the ground conditions today. All three of his runs this year have been on unsuitable soft/heavy but today he gets his preferred fast ground for the first time over hurdles since 2018 (8 runs ago) where he was rated 124.
Mr McGuiness is now down to a mark of 102 and considering he is now properly fit I think there is a high probability he will show improved form. With him looking well handicapped a return could easily see him win this, or worse case run into a place at big odds.
