The Elizabeth Doyle trained Scalor runs in this Rated Hurdle (a hybrid limited handicap) where the conditions of this race favour Scalor against all horses rated lower than 106. This makes him a few pounds better off with three quarters of this field including the first and second favourite.
Scalor sits in the market at a remarkable 25/1 outsider and that just doesn’t make any sense based upon the weights associated with this race.
It’s seems he has been priced up at big odds based on his last run where he ran down the field on heavy going and that he hasn’t raced since November 2020.
That seems crazy to me as Scalor has a distinct preference for better going and the heavy ground that day was definitely against him. This also explains why he hasn’t raced on winter ground.
His 151 day layoff might look like a negative, but again this is a positive in my eyes as he has run all his best races off a layoff, which includes a win over 2miles on good/yielding ground at Kilbeggan where he won at odds of 25/1
Scalor is more of a 7/1 shot so at 25/1 with Bet365 we have to get involved.
