The 11 year old No Ceiling is firmly in his veteran stages, he spent the majority of his career with Ian Williams, where he won 4 races over 2 miles (2 hurdle & 2 chases) off marks as high as 106. All his wins were on sound surfaces.
He was sold on as an 8 year old for £3800, so he wasn’t at the end of his career, but after just one run for his new trainer and connections he was injured and spent two years on the side-lines and has only returned this season.
The Trainer has been nursing him slowly back to full fitness. Being pulled up on his first two outings and then running down the field before the ground went too soft. He returned to action after a 3 month break and has run just the once, in March, where again he didn’t trouble the leaders.
It’s very noticeable that all four runs this season have been over too far (2m4-2m5F) as he doesn’t stay any further than 2 miles. Another glaring omission has been his usual hood and tongue tie that used to be part of his standard race set up.
Well today there is good reason to think he will run his best race for his new connections, he is back to his winning trip of 2 miles, on his preferred good ground, the hood & tongue tie are back on, he is fit from his recent pipe opener and his handicap mark is now down to just 82.
That makes him 2lb out of the handicap, but the good 7lb claimer Aaron Anderson takes the ride, so offsets this and enables him to run off a net 77.
This means he is thrown in on old form, and even taking into consideration for decline through age, at the weights he has an excellent chance over his ideal conditions that he hasn’t run under since 2018 when he was rated 111.
At 66/1 with Bet365 he must be backed, and I recommend 1 point each way.
