Free Tip – 8 May 2021 – Hanbury Racing Tips

Hanbury went close yesterday with his 40/1 pick Pilgrims KIng which was backed into 9/1 and finished a close second. He has had numerous horses backed in recent weeks and is due one of these steamers to come in.

Hanbury Racing put up Danilo D’Airy last night at 100/1 to his subscribers and has been backed into best priced 25/1.

Danilo D’Airy – 7.50 Warwick – 3 Mile Handicap Chase – 100/1 Bet365 – 4 places – 1 point each way.

The 8 year old Danilo D’Airy is very lightly raced having just the 5 starts. He is very well related with a full brother who ran for Giggingstown and postmarked a high of 120 over hurdles and improved over chases to post a high of 152.

Danilo D’Airy went through the Cheltenham sales ring for £40,000 before winning a 3 mile Point To Point on his second start, postmarking 70 in the process.

Unfortunately, he must have suffered injury as he was subsequently off the track for 2 years before returning for three runs under rules over hurdles.

I have watched the three races and Danilo D’Airy looks a strong strapping chaser in the making. You could tell he desperately needed the runs (over 2 miles and 2m 4F) and coming from a small stable this is hardly surprising, especially as he is a big stocky unit.

He looked a natural at his obstacles, albeit jumping them big and you could see he would relish jumping a chase.

Connections have clearly been slowly nursing Danilo D’Airy back to full fitness and it’s interesting after qualifying for a handicap mark, they go chasing straight away with him.

Because of his poor runs he has been allocated a handicap mark of just 35 which is far too low a mark to actually run off in any handicap race. Indeed today he has to run off 73 so is technically 39lb out of the handicap.

Connections could have run again in more novice events and eventually when the horse was fit and well, he would post a performance high enough for the handicapper to re-assess and run in the handicap proper. However this runs the risk of him running to say 90 (and finish rear of midfield in a novice race)) and the handicapper reassessing him to near 95.

This would deny him the opportunity to win multiple races off 73-95, so I’m really glad connections have gone straight into handicaps!

Connections ran Danilo D’Airy over 2 miles and 2m 4F for his novices, but for his handicap chasing debut it’s a good sign they have moved him up to 3 miles, the same trip as his Point to Point win.

Bearing in mind he postmarked 70 in his Point to Point (which can certainly be marked up based upon the horses he beat) and his chasing potential I feel he can win this off 73, so at odds of 100/1 with Bet365 I’m recommending 1 point each way.
