Monte Alban – 7.50 Southwell – 3 Mile Handicap Hurdle – 8/1 Bet365 – 2 point win.
The Trainer Justin Landy is based in North Yorkshire, and I always take note when he sends a runner to Southwell as he has won 4 races from just 8 runs, an impressive 50% strike rate.
Monte Alban is his representative and to me he has an obvious chance. This ex point to pointer is a winner of three 3 mile points on good ground.
He ran down the field in his novice hurdles over in adequate trips (including falling) and went handicap chasing off 93. His first run was on unsuitable heavy ground and he took a big step forward under rules when he finished a 2 length 4th in a 3 mile handicap chase (on good ground). He could easily have won if he had been more fluent over his fences.
On his last run they switched him back over hurdles (over 3 miles) and he was running a big race, moving from midfield to track the leader going well 1 mile out only for the race to be voided due to a stricken horse on the track.
He returns again to 3 miles over hurdles on this flat galloping track, on his preferred good ground, off the same mark as last time, and with the Trainers good record at the track I feel the 8/1 on offer is more than a fair price.
I therefore recommend a 2 point win with Bet365 at 8/1.
