Presgrave went into my tracker in January 2021 after he moved from Joseph O’Brien’s to join Jimmy Frost’s yard and was running in his maiden hurdles to qualify for a handicap mark.
When Presgrave was with Joseph I noticed he needed a tongue tie and cheekpieces (or blinkers) for all his 5 flat runs, where he achieved respectable postmarks with a high of 76. He was also a non-runner once when the soft ground was cited as unsuitable.
It was therefore interesting that Jimmy Frost took off these aids and ran him twice on unsuitable soft ground.
I made the note ‘back Presgrave when he becomes handicapped and runs with tongue tie and headgear, ideally off a mark less than 90, hopefully with Bryony on board’.
Well, the long term plan I thought they were hatching looks to be being executed today!
Presgrave is running in a handicap off a mark of just 83 (considering he achieved a 76 postmark on the flat he is looking very nicely handicapped over hurdles). He runs on his preferred good/fast ground with Bryony Frost (Jimmy Frost’s daughter and leading jockey) on board. Bryony is usually on board for all of Jimmy’s winners, especially if the money is down!
But the most important factor are the reapplication of tongue tie and cheekpieces combined with the recent run which will have prepped him perfectly for today (and inflated his price!).
We can get a decent 25/1 with Bet365 who offer BOG and I recommend 1 point each way.
I still see Presgrave as value at 12/1.
