Shabaaby – 4.35 Naas – 6F Handicap – 10/1 Bet365 – 1 Point Each Way
Once with Shadwell, Shabaaby has a touch of class winning multiple races and postmarking a high of 109.
He was sold on to Irish connections and has run 11 times in Ireland without success. However he did go very close over today’s course and distance last year, where he came second off a mark of 92.
Shabaaby has been kept reasonably busy this season and has acquitted himself Ok, but I think that has been more to do with the ground as he likes it soft, and all his runs have been on fast ground.
He ran well last time out over an inadequate 5F, where he stayed on and the return today to 6F is exactly what he needs.
The ground is critically in his favour today as it’s yielding and with 7mm of rain due overnight there should be soft in the description.
Shabaaby is down to a mark of 80 and is very well handicapped.
The ground is very important to Shabaaby, but he also needs to be ridden held up behind the leaders and delivered late. That needs a good jockey and in Colin Keane we have the Champion jockey on board to do the job.
The draw is ideal in stall 7 and there is a lot to like about his chance. I’m therefore recommending 1 point each way at 10/1 with Bet365.
He is still value at 8/1.
