Hi,
Please see my three tips for Wednesday:
Challow – 2.25 Hexham – 2m Handicap Chase – 66/1 Paddy Power/BetVictor/Betfair Sportsbook – 4 Places – 1 Point Each Way.
The 7 year old Challow started on the flat and peaked at a rating of 70, he ran a series of solid efforts without getting his head in front.
He went hurdling in Ireland and postmarked a peak of 110 before moving to Victor Thomson’s UK yard. Challow was rated 112 when he moved and over the past 12 runs has gradually dropped down the handicap to just 72.
He switched to chases at the start of 2021 and has been novicey in his jumping which has contributed to him running down the field, but he also ran poorly numerous times over 2 miles 4F and it seems 2 miles is much more his trip.
I noticed last season connections ran him over 2m 4F for his first two runs (which were poor) but then brought him back to 2 miles for his third start which was one of his best runs of the season. It looks like they are trying the same tactic this year and so I’m confident he will be putting up a much improved run today.
This coincides with connections reapplying cheekpieces which were on for his best run of last year over today’s course and distance.
Challow has runs some of his best races at Hexham and on adjusted ratings has posted the best performances compared to his rivals.
With Challow trading at 66/1 with Paddy Power, BetVictor and Betfair Sportsbook and offering 4 places in this 13 runner handicap it’s worth having a 1 point each way play.
He is still value at 25/1.
Sondheim – 4.00 Dundalk – 1 Mile Handicap – 33/1 Paddy Power, BetVictor, William Hill (Best Price 50/1 Bet365) – 1 Point Each Way.
The 4 year old Sondheim is still fairly unexposed. He has run to a reasonable level of 69 and been running over 7F to 1m 2F.
Connections seemed to feel 1m 2F was his trip, but he was running quite freely and not getting home.
They reverted him back to 7F (at today’s Dundalk track) where he ran well and stayed on to finish a close 1.5 length off a mark of 64. This run certainly suggested trying him over a mile would make a lot of sense, but they ran him twice more over 7F where he again stayed on without troubling the leaders.
Sondheim changed stables and after a 119 day break ran over 1m 2F (on unsuitable soft ground) and raced far too freely before fading. This was definitely a pipe opener and I’m really happy they have brought him back to a mile today.
Sondheim has run his best race at Dundalk (over 7F) so acts well at the track (from just 3 starts) and I think there is much more to come.
Running off just 55 today he is well handicapped and with Neve Bennett taking a further 7lb off he has a good chance of victory.
At 33/1 with Paddy Power, William Hill and BetVictor (and best priced 50/1 with Bet365) he looks an excellent each way play, and I recommend 1 point each way.
He is still value at 16/1.
The Dawn Man – 3.10 Ffos Las – 3 Mile Handicap Chase – 20/1 Paddy Power, William Hill, BetVictor – 5 Places – 1 Point Each Way.
The 10 year old Dawn Man looks really well treated off just 74 today.
He is a proper 3 mile chaser and looking through his form he enjoys soft ground and must have a flat galloping track.
His recent form isn’t exactly inspiring but all his last 5 runs have been on good ground, and he just doesn’t act as well on this surface.
I also think Dawn Man has been running recently with a mild wind issue, but connections have been happy to get a few runs in him on unsuitable ground to get a few pounds off his back.
I really like The Dawn Man today as he gets soft ground on a flat galloping track over 3 miles for the first time in 11 runs. That was way back in March 2020 where he won off a mark of 83! Running today off 74 makes him look nicely handicapped.
Connections are showing real intent today with a tongue tie applied for the first time in a long while and first time cheekpieces to help him travel.
The Dawn Man is definitely worth an each way play at 20/1 with Paddy Power, William Hill and BetVictor who all offer 5 places in the 18 runner handicap.
He still looks value at 14/1.
