Hanbury Racing – 19 January 2022

Hi,

Please see my three tips for Wednesday:

Fraughan Hill – 3.50 Plumpton – 2m 1 F Handicap Chase – 25/1 Ladbrokes Coral Bet365 (28/1) – 1 Point Each Way.

I put Fraughan Hill in his maiden hurdle after he showed promise in a good Irish Point To Point (see my previous write-up attached).

He has been running to free for his own good and hasn’t been seeing out his races. But going chasing might give him a reason to steady himself and get breathers in at fences.

This Point to Pointer will relish the chase fences and looks well in off 87.

I recommend 1 point each way at 25/1 with Ladbrokes, Coral, and Bet365 (who go 28/1).

He still looks value at 16/1.

Fraughan Hill – 1.35 Sandown – 2m Novice Hurdle – 80/1 – Sky/BetfairSB/William Hill – 1 Point Each Way.

This maiden hurdle has some solid-looking newcomers who have run fairly well in National Hunt flat races, but there don’t appear to be any superstars lining up.

It’s noticeable the first 5 in the market are all having their first start to the season and so when combined with lack of jumping experience it could be that many won’t run up to market expectations.

Consequently, it may allow Fraughan Hill to put his race fitness and experience to good use.

The gelding ran in three Point To Points and acquitted himself well on his last run when finishing a close 8 length 3rd behind My Immortal and Fruit and Nut who have both recently gone on to postmark around 126.

Fraughan Hill made his hurdling and seasonal debut recently over 2 miles where he travelled far too freely and went 20 lengths clear before tiring in the last half mile.

It was a highly likable performance as he jumped slickly throughout and despite blowing up and burning himself out still postmarked 86.

That was also his first start after a wind operation, and he will have gained a lot of confidence from the outing.

Based on Fraughan Hills’ run behind My Immortal you could make a case that he should be able to run around the 115 – 120 mark and that may well be enough to win today’s race. Especially when you factor in, he is likely to go off in front and set a good pace which will put the others jumping and fitness under more scrutiny.

They may also underestimate his chances and let him slip the field and with Caoilin Quinn claiming off another 7lb there are more reasons for optimism.

It may well be that one or two of the market leaders have too much improvement in them, but the fact we can back Fraughan Hill at 80/1 for 3 places with Skybet, Betfair Sportsbook, or William Hill makes him a tasty each-way play. I very much feel he can win this.

He is still value at 20/1.

Bella Coaster – 4.50 Dundalk – 1M 2.5F Mile Handicap – 66/1 Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook, BetVictor – 4 Places – 1 Point Each Way.

It’s worth taking a chance on the 4-year-old Bella Coaster in this weak-looking event.

Her best postmark of 67 was at Dundalk over 6F as a two-year-old, but she went backwards thereafter.

As a 3-year-old she showed improved form when stepped up to 1m 2F, placing off marks of 55.

After being sold on, Eoin Doyle now trains and sent her on two recent starts over inadequate trips of 7F and 1 mile. Bella Coaster ran respectfully enough, and now she steps back up to 1 mile 2 F, with fitness in place, she looks to have a good chance off the basement mark of 45.

Alan Perse gets winners for the stable and takes a handy 7lb off, netting her mark down to just 38 which gives her a massive chance under ideal trip/conditions.

We can back Bella Coaster at huge odds of 66/1 and get 4 places in this 14 runner event.

She looks massively overpriced, and I recommend 1 point each way.

She is still value at 25/1.

Cormac – 5.20 Dundalk – 1 Mile Handicap – 66/1 Ladbrokes, Coral, Bet365, BOG – 1 point each way.

Another poor race where the market leaders are suspect stayers over this 1-mile trip and could easily be won by an outsider.

I like Cormac, this lightly raced 4 year old postmarked a high of 65 on his racecourse debut and must be able to improve on that performance. He followed it up with a 60 postmark but went backwards on two final runs for J Stack’s yard.

He was sold on to a small yard in November 2021 and Cormac has just had the one pipe opener, in a claimer, which can be excused as he was drawn widest and was wrong at the weights.

Today is a different story, he runs in this poor handicap off 58 with the Trainer’s son, J Cleary, taking a valuable 7lbs off. They have put on blinkers (and tongue-tie) for the first time and come out of the plum draw in stall 1.

When Cormac put in his best performances he was ridden prominently, and so with blinkers applied he should have no problem holding the rail and taking a good earlier position.

I think he can kick in the home straight and hopefully; the mark principals won’t find as much as expected, and Cormac can hold on for the victory.

At 66/1 I’m willing to take a chance on the headgear working and I recommend 1 point each way.

He is still value at 25/1.
