The 13 year Old Mighty Leader looks a fascinating contender in this 3 mile handicap hurdle.
I’m certainly not put off recommending these older horses as invariably they run fewer races and connections are really keen to get one more victory out of them. The handicapper usually drops them in the weights quicker than younger horses and they have plenty of back class to demonstrate what tracks, distances and conditions they favour.
Well in Mighty Leader we have a horse that has won 9 races and placed a further 10 times from 46 rides. He loves 3 miles on a flat sharpish track on good racing ground and that’s exactly what he gets today.
He has won off marks as high as 130 and today he gets in here off just 92. Just two and a half years ago he came a close 3rd at Southwell off a mark of 127. Even allowing for deterioration, he is 35lb lower and that gives him a massive chance.
He is fit now and can outrun his odds, I therefore recommend 1 point each way at 22/1 with Paddy Power who offer 5 places.
