Scorpio – 3.47 Sedgefield – 3m 2F Handicap Chase – 80/1 Betvictor– 1 point each way.
The 10 year old Scorpio is a poor handicapper and has only ever won one race.
However, I’m really interested in Scorpio because this is the race, he won in 2019. That was on good ground, off a mark of 73 with 7lb claimer P Armson in the saddle.
It’s looking like déjà vu today with P Armson back in the saddle, on good ground off a mark of 74!
On the face of it Scorpio looks in bad form, finishing last of seven on his most recent start, but that was over a completely inadequate 2 miles, and was the last of three runs in March, which I’m sure have been to build his fitness and wellbeing up for a repeat bid at today’s race.
It’s very significant the Trainer, Victor Thompson, also won this race with another horse in 2016, so it makes his race record 2 wins from just 4 starts.
With these modest horses and smaller trainers you can never underestimate the importance of them targeting minor races at the smaller tracks and Victor certainly likes winning this race!
We can get an amazing 80/1 on Scorpio and I’m therefore recommending 1 point each way with Betvictor
