Pride of Pimlico – 7.20 Dundalk – 1 Mile Handicap – 18/1 Sky, Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook (best priced 20/1) – 1 Point Each Way.
Pride of Pimlico is a Dundalk specialist, especially over this 1-mile trip.
He is no world-beater, but in his class, he wins plenty of races, especially when fresh.
Today he pitches up here off a lay-off, and that’s when he is best to back him, and with his winning jockey on board, Rory Cleary, he is a rock-solid each-way play.
I recommend 1 point each way at 18/1 with Skybet. With both Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook offering 20/1.
He is still value at 12/1.
Lady KK – 4.50 Newbury – 3 Mile Handicap Hurdle – 11/1 Ladbrokes, Coral, Bet365 – 1 Point Each Way.
The 7-year-old mare Lady KK started life in 3 mile Point to Points and showed some distinct promise.
Under rules, she immediately stepped up in her maidens to postmark 106 over 2 mile 2F and she looked sure to improve on this when stepping up to 3 miles.
She started in handicaps off 108 and was stepped up to 3 miles, but flopped, and it wasn’t until they applied a tongue tie on her third handicap run last season that she showed her true ability by winning in a hack canter against a fair field off a mark of 106.
Lady KK looked like a 130-140 rated horse that day, but in her subsequent five starts, she hasn’t shown the same level of form.
Her breathing looks to have been the root cause of the issue as she had a wind operation and has been given one subsequent run which should have given her confidence in her breathing.
Interestingly her win last year was on April 1 and she pitches up at Newbury a year later off an enticing mark of just 112.
That big win was at Ffos Las, which is a flat super galloping track and Newbury is a very similar course, and today’s ground looks like being the same good/soft.
Clearly, she comes with a bit of a health warning, but the second run back after a wind op is usually a good time to see a horse run to form, and if that’s the case then Lady KK has a big chance today.
At 11/1 with Ladbrokes, Coral, and best-priced 12/1 with bet365. I’m recommending 1 point each way- BOG – 5 places.
She is still value at 8/1.
