Hi,
Please see my two picks for Sunday:
Dunvegan – 3.05 Curragh – 2 Mile Handicap – 16/1 Skybet – 7 Places – 1 Point Each Way.
The Irish Ceasarewitch is just as competitive as the English version, and it also pays to focus on the National Hunt horses.
The one I like is Dunvegan who has postmarked 140 in 2m to 3m hurdles/chases and run in Grade 1 and 2’s.
It looks like he has targeted this race on the flat as he has only had the three maidens and one handicap, all over inadequate shorter trips.
On his handicap debut over 1m 5F off a mark of 78 he was outpaced in the last half mile and was staying on well to only be beaten just over 2 lengths. The extra 3 furlongs today and softer ground will both bring out improvement.
Dunvegan was only raised a pound for that last run in what was a strong race so gets in here off 79 and a nice low weight. He has much in his favour and at 16/1 with Skybet who offer 7 places he looks the solid each way play.
He is still value at 12/1.
Turbojet – 2.45 Limerick – 3 Mile Handicap Chase – 40/1 Boyles – 5 places – BOG – 1 Point Each Way.
The 10 year old Turbojet has shown some decent form over hurdles postmarking a high of 135. He has won a maiden hurdle and been competitive in some of the biggest 3 miles handicaps of the season, particularly the Pertemps qualifier at Christmas where he finished 4th off 127.
He went chasing last season and showed a real aptitude winning a good maiden chase before being unsurprisingly outclassed by Minella Indo. Last season was cut short in November 2020 which must have been an injury.
Turbojet returned in the summer back over hurdles for a couple of outings. These were both on unsuitable good ground. His first run was very much a pipe opener and he improved on his second outing postmarking 108.
Today he is down to a mark of 114 and the key to success is the soft ground. All of Turbojets best form is on soft/heavy ground and so we can expect considerable improvement, especially now he is fit.
Turbojet has the assistance of Adam Short who has won on him before and has run well at Limerick before, so it all looks good for a positive run.
Remarkably we can get 40/1 on Turbojet generally and I’m advising Boyles who go 4 places and best odds guaranteed.
He is still value at 16/1.
