Hi,
Please see my two tips for Saturday’s racing:
Teston – 5.10 Doncaster – 1 Mile Handicap – 30/1 Paddy Power – 4 places – 1 Point Each Way.
This is your usual competitive handicap over Doncaster’s straight mile, and I like the look of Teston.
He spent most of his early career in France and transferred to Ivan Furtado in 2019 when on his debut he absolutely bolted up over todays course and distance by 6 lengths off a mark of 90 on good to soft ground.
The handicapper hit him hard for that win and he hasn’t won since. Indeed he ran in this race last year off 101 and led before fading into 7th. That was on unsuitable good to firm going.
He has been lightly raced this turf season, generally over an inadequate 7F and had a breathing issue which also stopped him finishing off his races. That has been dealt with via a wind operation in July.
He turns up here off a min break of 56 days, but he runs well when fresh so that’s a positive in my eyes.
There is a strong possibility this race has been a long term target as he enjoys a bit of cut and clearly likes Doncaster’s straight mile.
Teston is down to a mark of 89, so he is 1lb lower than when he hosed up here in 2019 and today, he gets his ground as its riding good to soft in places.
Sylvester De Souza is an eye catching jockey booking for the yard and at 30/1 with Paddy Power, who offer 4 places, he is looks a cracking bet.
I therefore recommend 1 point each way.
He is still value at 16/1.
Beyond Equal – 1.45 Doncaster – 5.5F Portland Sprint Handicap – 33/1 Bet365 – 5 Places – 1 point each way.
This is the uber competitive Portland Handicap of an intermediate sprint trip of 5.5F.
It really is a specialist trip as most horses are usually either a 5F or 6F horse and I think this will play into the strengths of Beyond Equal.
This 6 year old has been gradually progressing over the past 2 years but his stable have struggled to work out if he wants 5F or 6F. He has won over both, but he showed his best piece of form when he won a competitive big field handicap off 86 over 5.5F at Bath. That day he won decisively, and he hasn’t run over this trip since.
Well he gets his chance today off a mark of 90 and will relish the strong pace he will get here.
I think he will be able to track the leaders and then quicken one furlong out and win this good prize.
At 33/1 with Bet365, with 5 places, I’m recommending 1 point each way.
He is still value at 16/1
