Please see my two tips for Monday:
Clarens – 3.15 Listowel – 2m Handicap Hurdle – 25/1 Boyles – 1 Point Each Way.
Clarens is very lightly raced with just 3 maiden hurdle runs and one handicap debut.
On his final maiden run the stewards were involved as the jockey didn’t appear to make sufficient effort. This goes on all the time in Ireland, but the stewards rarely get involved, so this clearly was a blatant example!
Off the back of this, and a 60 day absence, he opened a 4/1 favourite on his handicap debut, but drifted violently out to 25/1 and was a non-show.
Today he makes his second start in a handicap, and they have jocked up my favourite, talented apprentice Jack Foley. He is very much in demand and is riding winners almost every day. So his booking is significant for this small trainer,
I like Clarens as he is a very backable 25/1 shot with Boyles, who offer 4 places, and I recommend 1 point each way.
He is still value at 12/1.
Duke Of Firenze – 5.30 Wolverhampton – 5F Handicap – 28/1 Bet365 – 1 Point Each Way.
The 12 year old veteran Duke of Firenze isn’t as good as he once was, but he is handicapped accordingly off 74 (was 109 at his peak) and is still winning races in these lower classes.
His last three wins over the past 12 months have been off 74 twice and 75 in Class 3 and Class 4 events.
Well today he ventures into a Class 5 for only the second time in his career. The first was two runs ago when he was returning from a break and only went down by 2.5 lengths. That was followed up last time by a decent effort in a Listed race where he had no chance at the weights and finished last of 6, but he wasn’t beaten that far. That was a creditable effort and shows he is in decent form.
With these two runs under his belt, fitness is assured, the drop to a winning mark of 74 and into a Class 5 give him a great chance. I therefore find his price of 28/1 with Bet365 very inviting indeed!!
