Hi,
Please see my two tips for Saturday:
Gold Souk – 7.30 Wolverhampton – 1m 1.5F Handicap – 33/1 Skybet – 4 Places – 1 Point Each Way.
The 4 year old Gold Souk was originally with Mark Johnston, winning a 1 mile maiden and postmarking a high of 90.
He was sold on and is now trained by Daniel Steele who has campaigned him regularly through 2021, mainly over 1m 2F to 1m4F. His has marked dropped considerably and eventually won a 1m 2F handicap off 59.
That was with first time cheek pieces. He didn’t follow it up but stayed competitive before having a well-earned mini break.
Gold Souk returned to action recently for his comeback run and looked like he needed it.
He is bound to come on for that and connections have jocked up Josh Bryan who won on Gold Souk this year and has run well on him in all 4 runs this year.
This coincides with a first time visor being fitted and considering he won with first time cheekpieces then it’s worth chancing him from a good draw, a fair mark of 62 and at juicy odds of 33/1 with Bet365.
He is still value at 14/1.
Penpal – 3.40 Wetherby – 2m 4F Handicap Hurdle – 66/1 Paddy Power – 4 Places – 1 Point Each Way
Penpal started his career in France and ran some sound races in his maidens at Auteuil, France’s premier jumps track, postmarking 110 and 115, before winning a 2m 4F maiden at Pau postmarking 120.
He moved to the UK with Micky Hammond and started out on what looked a fair UK mark of 125, but he didn’t run to his French form for all of his 5 UK starts.
Penpal looks interesting today as it may well have been he needed time to settle into his new surroundings or may had a niggle that was holding him back.
What we do know from his previous form is that he goes well fresh, including his win that came off a 215 break.
Today he runs after 214 days off, and I’d like to think what ever was stopping him from running his races last season are now ironed out.
Penpal races off an adjusted mark of just 103 and gets in here off bottom weight. He will get his preferred soft ground and Wetherby’s flat track is similar to Auteuil so he should enjoy the track.
This is a competitive race, but no other horse is as well handicapped as Penpal and at 66/1 with Paddy Power who offer 4 places he looks a cracking each way bet.
He still looks value at 25/1.
